Highland and Lowland League Cup Invites

The SPFL has written to both bodies for 2026/27

The SPFL has today invited Highland League and Lowland League clubs to apply for ‘wild card’ entry to next season’s Premier Sports Cup and KDM Evolution Trophy.

The SPFL welcomed three teams from across the two divisions to this season’s Premier Sports Cup group stage - Highland League winners Brora Rangers, Highland League runners-up Brechin City and Bonnyrigg Rose, who were relegated from the SPFL to the Lowland League at the end of last season.

The SPFL now intends to extend the same invite for a total of three clubs from the Highland League and Lowland League to take part in next year’s Premier Sports Cup, which is expected to use the same format as 2025/26.

The SPFL has also written to clubs in both leagues to apply to take part in next season’s KDM Evolution Trophy. Final numbers of participants from across both leagues will be confirmed when the format for next season’s competition is finalised.

Next season’s prize money for the Premier Sports Cup is expected to be no less than £30,000 per club, and £15,000 per club in the KDM Evolution Trophy.

The current intention is to invite clubs to one or other of the competitions, but not both, to ensure as much sharing as possible of the benefits of participation.
