The SPFL is preparing for the most dramatic William Hill Premiership final day match in decades – as Celtic host Heart of Midlothian in a winner-takes-all title decider.
League leaders Hearts are one point clear at the top of the table and travel to reigning champions Celtic tomorrow, live at 12.30pm on Sky Sports, knowing a draw or victory will see Derek McInnes’ men clinch a first top-flight title since 1959/60.
A win for Martin O’Neill’s side at Celtic Park will see the Glasgow club win a fifth consecutive league title.
Saturday will be the first top-flight title head-to-head decider during the SPFL era and the first in the Scottish top-flight since Rangers defeated Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox in season 1990/91 to clinch the league by two points.
The William Hill Premiership trophy was today draped in both maroon ribbons for Hearts, and green and white ribbons for Celtic, as preparations were finalised ahead of the season decider.
SPFL group chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “Saturday’s match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian promises to be a memorable occasion and one for the history books.
“It’s been a title race like no other in our top-flight since the SPFL was formed in 2013, and one of the most dramatic in decades.
“We’re expecting a truly compelling encounter for supporters both inside the stadium, and watching live on Sky Sports, and wish both clubs the very best of luck for this crucial match.”
The race for Europe also goes down to a final day decider tomorrow as Hibernian host Motherwell, with the Easter Road side one point behind the team from Fir Park in fourth place. In the final Saturday top-six game Rangers travel to Falkirk.
In the bottom-six on Sunday, Dundee host Aberdeen, Livingston are at home to Kilmarnock, who secured their top-flight status on Tuesday night, and Dundee United travel to St Mirren, with all games kicking off at 2.00pm.
