Weekend in numbers

Facts and figures from the weekend games...

4 – Raith Rovers won the KDM Evolution Trophy thanks to a 4-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Sunday. Doubles from Innes Cameron and Dylan Easton secured the win for Dougie Imrie’s side – this is just the second time in the competition’s history that two players have scored two or more goals in the final. The other instance came in 1999/00 when Alloa beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties following a 4-4 draw – Martin Cameron scored twice for the Wasps while Paul Sheerin scored a hat-trick for Inverness. Rovers also won the cup outright in 2013/14 and 2021/22, and shared the 2019/20 edition with the Caley Jags after the final could not be played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

6 – Falkirk secured a place in the top six of the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 3-2 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park. Goals from Barney Stewart, Ben Broggio and Calvin Miller sealed the Bairns’ first top-half finish since the split was introduced in 2000/01 – this will guarantee their best top-flight campaign since they finished fifth under Jim Jefferies in 1994/95. Stewart has scored six goals in his last five matches for the Bairns, including four straight Premiership matches. The last player to score in four consecutive top-flight games for the Bairns was Anthony Stokes back in October-November 2006. This was Motherwell’s second home defeat of the season – the other one also came against John McGlynn’s side in October.

15 – Rangers defeated Dundee United 4-2 at Ibrox to close the gap at the top of the William Hill Premiership to just one point. Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, Thelo Aasgaard and Bojan Miovski were all on the scoresheet for the Light Blues as they took advantage of leaders Heart of Midlothian dropping points at Livingston. Danny Rohl’s side are now unbeaten in their last 15 league matches, winning 11 and drawing four since they lost to Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle back in December. Rangers have not lost any of their last 13 matches against Dundee United – they have nine wins and four draws since their last defeat back in August 2021.

4 – Airdrieonians climbed off the foot of the William Hill Championship thanks to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium. Goals from Lewis Strapp, Chris Mochrie, Cole McKinnon and Adam Devine helped Aaron Taylor-Sinclair’s side move into ninth place, two points above the Staggies. This is the Diamonds’ biggest league win of the season – the last time they won a league game by four or more goals was almost exactly a year ago, when they beat Queen’s Park 5-0 at Hampden on April 2, 2025. It was also Airdrie’s biggest win over the Staggies – they had never previously beaten them by more than a two-goal margin and had never won in Dingwall by more than a single goal.

15 – Stenhousemuir defeated Hamilton Academical 3-0 at Ochilview to return to the top of William Hill League 1. Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Ross Taylor and Gregor Buchanan all found the net, while goalkeeper Darren Jamieson kept his 16th league clean sheet of the season. The victory moved the Warriors two points ahead of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, having played a game more – the sides meet at Ochilview next week in a potential title decider. This was Stenhousemuir’s biggest win over Accies since March 1962, when they beat them 4-1 at Ochilview. Gary Naysmith’s side are now unbeaten in 15 league matches – they have nine wins and six draws since losing to Montrose in December.

6 – Forfar Athletic kept alive their hopes of a top-four finish in William Hill League 2 thanks to a 2-1 win over Elgin City at Station Park. Goals from Martin Rennie and Scott Shepherd handed Jim Weir’s side a crucial victory which moves them to within two points of their opponents, who currently occupy the final promotion play-off spot. The Loons are now unbeaten in their last six home matches against the Black and Whites, winning three and drawing three – their last defeat was in January 2023.
