Weekend in numbers

Facts and figures from across the latest SPFL matches...

2 – Dundee United defeated Celtic 2-0 at Tannadice on Sunday to keep alive their slim hopes of reaching the top six in the William Hill Premiership. Will Ferry and Emmanuel Agyei both scored in the second half to also all but secure safety for Jim Goodwin’s side, who are 10 points clear of the relegation zone. United have recorded as many wins over Celtic this season (2) as they did in the previous 15 seasons (P43 W2 D8 L33). It’s the first time the Terrors have beaten the Hoops twice in the same campaign since 1990/91, when they won 3-1 with goals from Christian Dailly, Darren Jackson and Mixu Paatelainen then 2-0 with goals from Freddy van der Hoorn and Ray McKinnon.

13 – Rangers climbed to second place in the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 4-1 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox. Tochi Chukwuani, Mikey Moore, Nico Raskin and James Tavernier were all on target for Danny Rohl’s side as they kept themselves three points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian. The Light Blues have won all three matches against Aberdeen this season – it’s the first time they’ve had a 100% record against the Dons since their 2020/21 title-winning campaign. Rangers are now unbeaten in 13 home league matches (W10 D3) – their only loss at Ibrox in the league this season came against Hearts back in September.

3 – Raith Rovers beat Airdrieonians 3-1 at Stark’s Park to move five points clear of the relegation spots in the William Hill Championship. A double from Kai Montagu and a goal from Innes Cameron helped Dougie Imrie’s side come from behind to secure a crucial three points. The victory ended a run of five league matches without a win for Raith – they have won just four league games since the start of October, but curiously all four have been by a margin of more than one goal. Rovers had won just one of their previous 11 league meetings with the Diamonds, although they did knock them out of the KDM Evolution Trophy on penalties last month.

13 – Stenhousemuir closed the gap at the top of William Hill League 1 to a single point thanks to a 2-0 victory over Kelty Hearts at Ochilview. Ross Taylor and Matty Aitken got the goals for Gary Naysmith’s side in the only game in the division which didn’t finish as a draw. This has been a breakout season for Taylor – the 22-year-old has racked up 16 goals in 39 matches in all competitions, having previously only scored seven times in 61 games for the club. The Warriors are unbeaten in their last 13 league matches (W8 D5) – at the start of the run they were six points behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle and had played a game more, but are now within touching distance of the leaders, who visit Ochilview on April 11.

6 – Dumbarton defeated Annan Athletic 2-1 at The Marbill Coaches Stadium to take a huge step towards securing safety in William Hill League 2. Goals from Scott Honeyman and Leighton McIntosh helped move Frank McKeown’s side nine points clear of bottom club Edinburgh City with six matches remaining. The Sons have won four of their last five matches against the Galabankies – the only blip being a 1-0 defeat in Annan last month. Dumbarton are unbeaten in six league matches, winning three and drawing three. This is their longest unbeaten run since they drew six games in a row at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
