Hamilton Academical William Hill League One

SPFL statement – Hamilton Academical

Six-point deduction following independent tribunal

Hamilton Academical has received a six-point deduction following an independent Disciplinary Tribunal into SPFL Rule breaches, which were admitted by the club.

The breaches relate to the William Hill League 1 club having failed to pay its players’ wages on time, and in full, on 31 December 2025.

The club also admitted it had breached the rules by defaulting on its tax obligations to HMRC and remains in default of those obligations.

The club notified the SPFL of both potential breaches as required by SPFL Rules and Regulations and engaged fully in the disciplinary process.

Hamilton Academical’s points tally for season 2025/26 will be adjusted immediately. The club remains subject to a player registration ban. This ban permits only the registration of professional players who were born on, or after, 1 January 2006, in addition to amateurs.

The breaches relate to a period prior to the current ownership taking control of the club, and the SPFL continues to work constructively with the new board.

An SPFL spokesperson commented: "The payment of players’ wages, and the tax default and reporting rules, are vital parts of maintaining a fair league competition for all clubs involved."
